Super destroyer HMS Diamond enters service

The Royal Navy's newest and most advanced air defence destroyer HMS Diamond has entered service after completing extensive sea trials.
It is armed with the Sea Viper missile defence system which is capable of tracking and defending against multiple supersonic targets simultaneously. The system is backed by long and short range radar and missile systems that can search in excess of 400km.

Royal Navy commissions HMS Diamond


LONDON (BNS): The Royal Navy has formally commissioned the new Type 45 air defence destroyers into its fleet, according to the Minstry of Defence. 

HMS Diamond was commissioned on Friday in a traditional ceremony in her homeport of Portsmouth. The ship is one of the six multi-role vessels being built to provide air defence using the Sea Viper missile system.
