This ANZAC Day, Campbelltown couple Sepuloni and Tualesa Falepau will witness their daughter Aumau Falepau, take part in one of the nation’s most important traditions, representing the Australian Defence Force (ADF) at ANZAC Cove and later at Lone Pine.
Currently a serving member of the Royal Australian Navy, Aumau, 28, considers it a great opportunity to be part of a military history which signifies the true values of the Australian spirit. “I joined the ADF because I was searching for a respectable career that would allow me to contribute back to the community. I hope to look back on my life and believe I’ve lived it to the fullest.”
In 1999, after completing Year 12 at Ingleburn High School, Aumau commenced her tertiary studies at the University of Western Sydney. While growing up in Campbelltown, Aumau was an active member of the community playing Women’s Rugby Union for the Harlequins, and attending the Samoan Congregational Christian Church on Sundays.
ANZAC Day is marked as a day of respect, to commemorate the lives of Australians and New Zealanders who died on the shores of Gallipoli during the First World War. As part of Australia’s Federation Guard Aumau, together with 13 others, will conduct a Catafalque Party Ceremony in front of veterans, military and government officials which will be broadcast live throughout the world. “It’s exciting and a privilege to participate in such an important ceremony. It’s my way of saying thank you, and of remembering those who have died, or who have been wounded during military operations.”
