US Navy awards $18 mln contract to BAE systems

LOUISVILLE (BNS): US Navy has awarded $18 million contract to BAE Systems for the delivery of 519 Marine Corps Gunner Protection Systems for the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement and the High Mobility Multi-Wheel Vehicle (HMMWV).

The Marine Corps Gunner Protection System (MGPS) is also known as the Marine Corps Transparent Armored Gun Shield (MCTAGS) system.

BAE to provide communications, gun systems for US Navy's LCSs

ARLINGTON (BNS): British defence firm BAE Systems will provide the external communications and primary gun systems for the 10 littoral combat ships (LCS) to be built by Austal USA for the US Navy.

A subcontractor to General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems which has been awarded a contract from Austal to be the Platform Systems Engineering Agent for the new class of ships, BAE Systems will design, install, integrate and test various communications systems for the LCSs.

BAE to upkeep US Navy’s Ticonderoga class warships

NORFOLK, VIRGINIA (BNS): BAE Systems has received a contract from the US Navy to maintain six Ticonderoga class (CG 47) guided missile cruisers.
Under the multi-ship, multi-option (MSMO) dry dock contract, spanning for five years, BAE will undertake execution planning, modernisation, maintenance and repair work for the warships.
The ships include: USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55), USS San Jacinto (CG 56), USS Normandy (CG 60), USS Monterey (CG 61), USS Anzio (CG 68) and USS Vella Gulf (CG 72). 

BAE to provide Mk 38 Mod 2 machine guns to US Navy

ARLINGTON, US (BNS): British defence firm BAE Systems has received a contract from the US Navy to deliver 40 Mk 38 Mod 2 Machine Gun Systems (MGS).

This is the first year of a four-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract with a total value of over $165 million under which BAE will deliver the naval guns in 2011 and 2012. 

The latest order will increase the total number of Mk 38 Mod 2 guns in the US Navy’s fleet to more than 220, the company said.

Northrop to build bridge and navigation suite for Elizabeth class carriers

LONDON (BNS): US defence firm Northrop Grumman has been awarded a contract to build the Integrated Navigation Bridge System (INBS) for the Royal Navy’s next-generation Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.

Under the undisclosed amount of contract, Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit will build and deliver the complete INBS, including electronic chart display and information system for the new class of aircraft carriers being built by UK’s BAE Systems. 

BAE Systems enhances capability of South African Hawk

WARTON, (UK): BAE Systems has completed work to upgrade the navigation and weapons system for the South African Air Force’s fleet of Hawk jet trainers.

The software and hardware upgrade, jointly developed with long term South African partner Advanced Technologies and Engineering, will enable the Hawk Mk120 to share simulated radar data across multiple platforms, a company statement said.

For example, the South African Hawk Mk120 can see the same data as the South African Air Force Gripen and South African Navy Corvette frigate whilst on a training sortie.

Upgrading Royal Navy Minehunting Ships

Northrop Grumman has received a contract from BAE Systems to upgrade the machinery control, alarm and surveillance (MCAS) systems on eight U.K. Royal Navy mine counter measure vessels.

Under the contract, Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit will supply new-generation systems to replace the ships' existing MCAS. The systems will monitor more than 500 sensor points on the ships' main propulsion engines and drive systems, generators and auxiliary machinery. The scope of work will also include extended warranty and spares. Installation, testing and commissioning will be contracted following completion and validation of the design with installations scheduled to take place on the eight vessels between 2011 and 2015.
