Northern Fleet begins integrated exercise


Northern Fleet (NF) has started integrated exercise at training ranges of the Barents Sea. The maneuvers are held under general auspices of NF Deputy Commander Vice Admiral Alexander Vitko, reports ITAR-TASS citing NF Commander's press-secretary Capt 1 rank Vadim Serga. 

Among the exercise's participants are missile cruiserMarshal Ustinov, destroyer Admiral Ushakov, missile ships, diesel submarines, large landing ships, small ASW ships, minesweepers of Kola flotilla, and NF nuclear-powered submarines. The ships' actions are supported by antisubmarine aviation. 

According to Serga, ships have already completed numerous gun/missile/torpedo firings, depth charge and minelaying drills. Joint maneuvering, submarine search and tracking, antiaircraft warfare activities were practiced during the exercise. Crews of warships once again proved their capability to accomplish all assigned tasks. Next step in their training process will be task force exercises which are traditionally held in summer.

Northern Fleet prepares for Victory Day Parade


Marching drills were held on Apr 11 at Northern Fleet (NF) as a preparation for Victory Day's military parade to be conducted on May 9 in Murmansk and Severomorsk. 

Over 1,000 servicemen of NF surface/submarine units, coast guard, and naval aviation, officers of EMERCOM and internal troops will participate in the parade. 

According to NF Commander's press-secretary Capt 1 rank Vadim Serga, participation of Norwegian mariners will be a distinctive element of the coming festivities. Norwegian frigate F313 Helge Ingstad is expected to pay friendly visit to Northern Fleet on the eve of the Victory Day.
